WebKel F-800 fluorocarbon polymer has been selected as the binder for the TATB explosive in the B77 bomb. Kel F-800 is a 3M copolymer derived from the monomers chlorotrifluorethylene (CTFE) and vinylidine fluoride (VF/sub 2/). Chlorotrifluoroethylene (CTFE) is a chlorofluorocarbon with chemical formula CFCl=CF2. It is commonly used as a refrigerant in cryogenic applications. CTFE has a carbon-carbon double bond and so can be polymerized to form polychlorotrifluoroethylene or copolymerized to produce the plastic ECTFE. PCTFE has the trade name Neoflon PCTFE from Daikin Industries in Japan, and it used to be produced under the trade name Kel-F from 3M Corporation in Minnesota.
WebKel-F® also known as PCTFE or CTFE has many of the properties similar to other fluoropolymers such as PTFE, FEP, or PFA, but is mechanically superior in rigidity and has very low gas permeability.
